BAC continues to strive to provide an artist resource

November 13, 2012

crowd.  Photo Credit: Diana De Lury
This past weekend excitement made the sound of buzzing at the HACE™ Business of the Arts Workshops (BoA). Whether it was two people excitedly talking in hushed tones about a new learned tip or the tapping of fingers on phones tweeting their experience.

Robert Bateman awed those
that attended HACE Business
of the Arts Workshops 2012.
The most popular presenter this year was international wildlife artist Robert Bateman. Not only did he share with the public about his life and art influences, but he gave constructive critiques to local artists who submitted their work. “I am a big fan of [Bateman] and it was a great honor to have him critique my work and give me great suggestions that I can use in my art work … It is something I will cherish for the rest of my life.” said Margaret Pardy.

Cheryl Ewing and Tom Kemp
 smile for the camera.

While Bateman was a treat for visual artists and art lovers, HACE™ BoA caters to many disciplines and industries with experienced professional who work successfully in the music industry (Tom Kemp), public relations (Sue Baldaro), theatre (Tim Chapman, Theatre Ontario) and more.

The 12 workshops continue to surprise first-time attendees with the amount and the fact that the wealth of knowledge and quality of contact with experienced individuals is free to local Bramptonians.

Bateman took the time to meet with fans
and sign some of his pieces and books
Fired up by the Brampton Arts Council in 2000, HACE is an initiative that “strategizes how to accomplish a community-wide desire to see the heritage, arts, culture and entertainment (HACE™) lead the way to revitalizing historic downtown and ultimately the whole city”.

The Business of the Arts Workshops has been an active part of this since they were kicked off in 2001.Constantly increasing its fan base and attendees. In 2010, the Brampton Arts Council extended the Workshops reach by creating the HACE™ Mini-Series, which features a workshop earlier in the year.

Executive Director, Marnie Richards say that the “[BAC} is delighted to see HACE grow from an idea into a variety of real-life events that serve not only as a resource, or people connector to Brampton’s arts community, but an identifier of Brampton’s commitment to the arts.”

While HACE™’s Business of the Arts Workshops has just concluded, the Brampton Arts Council is already prepping for the Mini Series “So You Want to Go For a Grant” on February 7, 2013. For registration or more info, call 905-874-2919 or email info@artsbrampton.ca.

HACE™ Mini Series; an Evening in Conversation with Actor, Yannick Bisson

By Amena Siddiqui.

A lively and entertaining atmosphere flourished in the Brampton Golf Club this past Thursday, March 22nd, 2012.

Organized and hosted by the Brampton Arts Council, HACE™ Mini Series: an Evening in Conversation with Actor, Yannick Bisson filled up quickly and offered an enjoyable, up-close and intimate evening full of laughter, insight and Q & As.

Yannick, a Montreal-born and Toronto-raised film and television actor is well known for his roles in Murdoch Mysteries; Sue Thomas: F.B. Eye; Flashpoint; High Tide; Soul Food and many others joined us with his beautiful wife, Chantal Craig, who energetically shared with us and brought the conversation to the next level.

Yannick informed everyone about his acting career and experience. He emphasized that it is important to do what you love and also have a back-up plan which he ironically did not but always enjoyed building homes. He said, “one of the things I like to do is build things. I know how to build a home and a lot of the times I had to… income wasn’t always there…as an actor income always comes and goes”.

He humorously continued, “I had absolutely no plan. I can’t lie- no back-up plan but I knew it is important to do what I love. Ever since I was a kid I imagined myself doing a lot. So I knew I wanted to … wind surf all day, jump off cliffs and kiss the beautiful woman at the end of the day. I knew I wanted to be rich… doesn’t everybody? I knew I wanted to feel something when I do something…”

After the conversation, everyone inevitably approached the highlight of the event itself – one-on-one questions, small talk, autographs and took pictures with Yannick and Shantelle.

The BAC expresses their gratitude towards Yannick and Shantelle for a successful and relaxing event.

Thank you all for attending!

HACE™ Mini Series will continue to grow and we hope to see you all next time.
